Czech gastronomy: a lot to eat

Whenever we go to a foreign country on a trip, we are sure that the first thing our mother asks us when we talk to her is, how do you eat there? Well, mothers all over the world, rest assured if your children go to the Czech Republic, they eat there a lot and very well.

The Czech gastronomy: what is it ?

The Czech gastronomy is not famous at international level, because it is not so varied and elaborated as the Spanish or French, mainly due to the lack of sea, but we will find enough dishes that will leave us a good taste in our mouths. What is famous in the Czech Republic is the beer, with the Pilsner Urquell at the head.

This beer is the first pilsner type that began to be brewed in the world, in 1842, and has been copied by all pilsner type beers, although this one is still one of the best. We can also find in almost all bars and restaurants the Kozel and Budweiser Budvar (in Czech Budějovický Budvar), which has nothing to do with the American Budweiser, being much better the Czech.

Typicals plates and restaurants

Although these three brands are the most common, almost all restaurants usually have another brand of small production that is manufactured in a brewery in the area. This is usually the best option when ordering, especially if it is on tap, since in general Czech beers usually taste good and do not swell the stomach, although they are very easy to drink.

If we want a stronger drink, we have the famous Becherovka, a herbal liqueur of 32º and whose recipe is more secret than that of Coca-Cola; only two people know it. It is ideal to fight the cold.

At lunchtime, it is typical to start with a soup, to combat the cold weather. The truth is that I am not a big fan of soups, accustomed to the typical chicken soup that abounds in Spain, but the Czechs managed to have a wide variety of very tasty soups. The most typical are the garlic and potato soups, which are always appetizing. The potato soup can be served inside a bread roll, as it was done in the old days.

We can also find noodle soup (a kind of meat balls), dumplings (milk bread), mushrooms and eggs, sausage, noodles, tomato, etc.. All restaurants usually have several different soups to choose from, never missing the garlic and potato soups.
